Patriotism, is it a seasonal feeling?

We are gona Celebrate August 15th. imm... We all says now we are proud to be an Indian, we will die for our country and so on. Well is it a seasonal feeling? Do we think so in other months too?

We talk about our country, patriotism and so on in this near by dates, but do we really mean it?

I need your comments. Is it a seasonal feeling. Do we remember, we are Indians every time? I think we remember only when we are watching international sports and games or when such days came,or when watching a movie? Is this day to remind us we are Indians? Is this day celebrating to remind lakhs of people died for our country?

When we hear "Sarfaroshi Ki thamanna , ab hamare dil mein hein..." it likes getting energised. But is that feeling still in our heart when we are not listening the music? Are you sarfarosh?

'Sarfarosh' = One who is ready to stake his life (for a cause).

'Sarfaroshi' = Readiness to stake life.

How many of u celebrated Quit India day? It was on August 9th (Quit India : 1942 August 9). How many of you were aware about it?

Quit India Movement was one of the most important mile stone in our freedom struggle. If we are proud to be an Indian, if we do remember about the people who sacrifice their life, then how come we forget the day?

I am not different from you people...Really I am ashamed of myself. Because if I am proud to be an Indian, if I am that much patriot, me too will not be like this.......

I don't know, but I don't feel ashamed of it because its been developed in this way only in our country... but I do feel bad for not knowing the "Quit India day" which was on August 9th

In school when I used to say our national anthem I was not aware what I am saying whats the importance of it... I used to think this must be part of school process so we need to do that but when I came in 6-7th I got knowledge from book and importance of the national anthem...

condition is so bad in our country that government need to put advertisement on diff channels to tell people that please respect our national anthem and do stand up whenever you hear it... but how many of us stand up when we see that ad on our TV?

but rather than pointing out the problem and feeling bad for it lets try and get some solution for it...

First thing....For me its not a seasonal feeling...i will always be patriotic ..if in future i get an opportunity to show my patriotism..i will go for it. For me Being patriotic is not enough the reasons (right reasons)for why u feel being patriotic is more Important.

Firstly, i do feel bad about not remembering Quit India day :(. I would agree patriotism for me to be as a seasonal feeling too. When Abhinav won GOLD, i didnt get all that excited and started gaga over our India. Problem here is, Government does not make enough effort to educate a person patriotically (at the same time i also feel it is not really something that can be taught!), does not give enough boost/ resources to a sportsman
here. For me, humanity comes before patriotism for a particular Country. August 15 is a day when every Indian comes together, many Indians are proud to say "Unity in Diversity". Do we actually preach this thought though? Multicultural environment here is simply not being nourished and everyone is busy fighting internally for this same reason. We must first learn to be a better individual, with sense of respect for everything/ everyone that one feels right. It is our duty as part of a community to work out differences and come together for a greater cause. You starting a blog entry on this topic is a good start to go with :)

Brother,
Never say that Government is the problem. It is not the government to tell us do this, do that.....
It must be like .. a feeling that needs to grow inside us
Its not government who taught us, how to love our parents, how to love our girl friend/ boy friend..so y shud this comes upto government??????

Uns33n said...

haha...true! that's the reason i have also mentioned, it is not really something that can be taught. But, if you look at the state right now, i would always blame government :)

itsme.anoop said...

y shud u blame government?
its we the people who select them, then how can we blame them.....
its our fault na??

You know you are right in a sense. Personally, i hate it when ppl say "You need to be in the system to beat the system". Does it actually work? Of course we can try, participate in government issues, try to solve, choose wisely and all. Usually, almost kind of always, ppl get bribed, if not they are taken down smoothly, no one even comes to know...This is a system, which i cannot think can be changed. The idea of me blaming government comes from this thought itself (which i believe).

Oh fucking no. I hate this country. I like to think only about myself. I dont feel an ounce of partriotism at all. This country has nothing to offer me. It didnt give me anything worthwhile. If I get a chance I would sell all of this country and go settle in Europe.

Now all those who read the above, didnt you get angry and have your blood curl? It shows that patriotism isnt seasonal but more circumstancial[spelling?]. You would feel patriotic when someone hurls abuses to our country. But you would not feel so patriotic when you are trying to bribe the policeman when you were driving triples on a bike.

I would not accept that we are not patriotic. We are but we are also accustomed to take shortcuts along the way :)

Btw apologies to start with cursing our good old mother India.

we alone cannot change the system, but we can change ourself na...

I am planning to start a community, Developers for Humanity ( Dev 4 Hums)..

I hope we can work together...we can contribute, as we can...

Dear alvn
So u love/thing about your girlfriend only when some one comments her???
ehmmmm......

If you love somebody and its just in heart....whats use? Love is to express...like wise, i do believe..patriotism is to express...

From ma 7th standard, I stand up and keep attention when i hear national anthem..let it be anywhere.. its a pledge taken by us,...friends ....

I agree with Alvn. And You dont become patriotic by celebrating each and every occasion that may have a historic significance. Ofcourse there is always a different aura around 15th August and 26th January for the obvious reasons, but that does not mean that Patriotism is a seasonal feeling.

I come from a family which has had generations in the armed forces and have had some one close fighting in every war this country has fought. I can say I know armed forces well. I am sure many of our soldiers did not remember 9th August, but they remain as patriotic as anyone can be, not thinking twice before laying down their lives if the there is a need.

And I am sure our netas celebrate each and every occasion you can find in a calender giving speeches and cutting ribbons. We know how patriotic most of them are!!!

Patriotism is a state of being, it is deep in your heart. Either you are one or not. You cant be seasonal patriotic.

Proud to be an Indian.

Hell lot of responses, finally a quote to add on, how much ever bitching and stabbin happens, we indians still have it in us. In the process of preparing ourselves capable to handle economy, its a must that we can handle our own economical status too. Due to this, lot of people do forget to express their feelings, of course we are all humans. But still we do love and are proud of what we are - INDIAN!

Vande Mataram!
Wish You All A Happy And Safe Independence Day!

Anoop, you seem to have misunderstood me. What I am saying is that we tend to show our patriotism in cirmcumstances [when our country in abused] and not in a season[when its Aug 15th]. Meaning I feel that patriotism is not a seasonal feeling.

About the love/patriotism thing, thats a different argument altoghether. Love is a feeling while patriotism is more of love for the country [attitude of loyalty also if you want to call it]. Everybody expresses it in a way he/she likes to. Nobody can force anybody to express his feelings in a particular way.

And just in case you are wondering, I too do stand in total respect when the national anthem is sung/played. I sing along with it too. Now I love to express my patriotism that way, but that doesnt mean the guy standing next to me doesnt respect the country because he is not in attention or is not singing along with me. Its just his wish.
